About a producer: the small family run wine estate Domaine Klur in Katzenhall has existed since 1999 in its present form, but wine production goes back to the 17th Century. Since 1999 they have been following a natural approach to cultivation, ecology and using biodynamic practices. The estate has just 7ha of land and is farmed and certified organically and bio-dynamically.

Location: Katzenthal is located in the centre of the Alsatian wine region the village on a geological crevasse. It is nestled in a small valley, protected from the west winds and strong weather conditions, as it is the French region with the least rainfall (Colmar has less than 500 ml per year). Domaine Klur has 2 plots of Grand Cru vineyards with granitic soils at Wineck-Schlossberg and Steinacker). Extremely steep hillsides mean everything is hand harvested.

This blend of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Auxerrois comes from vines planted in sandy soils in the valley below Katzenthal.

The first fermentation and malolactic fermetation is carried out in stainless steel tanks with wild yeasts followed by a secondary fermentation in bottle with selected organic yeasts. No sulphur is added during vinification or disgorgement, which is carried out after 16 month in bottle! The result is a fruity and balanced wine with fine bubbles! No oak treatment.

French sparkling wine: Certified organic, biodynamic, suitable for vegans and vegetarians and with no added sulphites.

Kaori I.

Initially Sweet

I prefer drier sparkling wine, however, this was easy to the mouth. Not spectacular but regular.
