Trio of Organic Red Wines | Classic Wines | Armador, Chile

'Armador' into English is 'ship owner'.

Nothing could be further from the truth for that of Norwegian born ship owner Dan Odfjell. He discovered and fell in love with a small corner of the famous Maipo Valley in Chile over 25 years ago. He invested in some land which serendipitously turned out to be located in Chile's premium red wine producing valley, where Vitis Vinifera has been cultivated for over 400 years.

So, to celebrate the new vintage of an old and returning favourite, Armador Cabernet Sauvignon, we decided to help everyone discover the wonder of 3 very different wines from a very talented winemaker located in a very special region.

The case consists of 3 wines;

Armador Carmenere - a medley of aromas from blackberry and dark chocolate to more savoury, meaty notes. The palate displays ripe dark fruits but also coffee and liquorice. The ripe present tannins offer a solid structure and the layers of complexity keep your attention. The is both elegant and enduring. This organic red wine was matured in oak for just 5 months so the wine is soft and round, but still vibrant, playful and just a bit punchy.

Food Match: curry, yes curry, grilled meats, flavoursome veggie dishes and even a fruit crumble

Sugars: <2 g/l Sulphites: <45 mg/l ABV: 13.5%

Armador Cabernet Sauvignon - this organic Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile is all about blackcurrant fruit and much more. Excellent display of what this grape variety is all about, but some additional aromas and flavours too: organic red wine displays intense aromas of raspberries, dry plum and figs with just a hint of eucalyptus. Juicy and rich with round tannins, a touch of coffee and chocolate and a long finish.

Food Match: red meat dishes, grilled vegetables and vegan dishes served with rich sauces

Sugars: <2 g/l Sulphites: <40 mg/l ABV: 13.5%

Armador Syrah - an organic Syrah displays ultra ripe fruit that manages to combine great depth and richness with clear and precise underlying acidity. Oak underpins that dark blackcurrant and blackberry fruit and sweet spice. Rich and powerful but still softly textured, this wine is another triumph for Chile. Dry red wine that is on a sweeter side because of ripe fruit.

Food Match: great with all red meat dishes like stews and casseroles or a simple pizza if cooking is not part of the plan.

Sugars: < 2 g/l Sulphites: <40 mg/l ABV: 13.5%
