The history of Sainte Marie goes back to the 18th century. The lands of Sainte Marie then belonged to the Monastery of Verne located a little bit higher in the massif des Maures. In those days less than ten hectares were cultivated with grapevines. In 1884, a terrible epidemic of cholera devastated the whole region but stopped right at the boundary to the property. A statue of the Virgin Marie was built in recognition. It gave its name to the property and their best wine. Since then, several generations of winegrowers have succeeded one another producing wines of high quality which display the uniqueness of the terroir.
Viticulture: The vineyard Sainte Marie stretches out over 40 hectares of land. With a great southern exposure, the land is made of a filterable siliceous soil containing micaschists, schists and white quartz. The slopes are rather soft. All the vines are Organic and on average 25 years old and they benefit from hot and dry weather in the summer. However, nights can be rather cold in the winter and cool in the summer.
Winemaking: Grape harvests are performed at night and the wines are always kept under thermal control. With the help of a pneumatic press, stainless steel tanks, semi-buried tanks and constant human control they are able to create nothing less than quality wines.
