This June our Organic Wine Club celebrates 1st Anniversary and here is one of the celebratory wine cases that we've prepared for you:
Alex, who is our co-founder and the one responsible for our showroom, is more of a whisky, beer and occasional red wine type of a man. Yet he's got one white wine weakness: Picpoul de Pinet. This fruity and aromatic dry white wine from south of France is one of the rare occasions you can see him drinking white wine. This celebratory case hence includes 1 bottle of richer style of Picpoul de Pinet, this ever so popular dry white wine is made with pronounced floral and mineral fragrances underlined with lively citrus aromas. Its radiant deep yellow colour tell us that it is a fuller bodied style. Great with flavoursome fish dishes. This wine will cope with generous amount of sauce too!
One white wine that makes our customers to come back for more and more to our retail store is Chilean Sauvignon Blanc: extremely classic Ventopuro Sauvignon Blanc from San Antionio Valley in Chile. It displays intense aromas of gooseberries, tropical fruits, with mineral and herbal notes. On the palate it is prominent with a rich acidity, long, fresh and fruity. Delightful Sauvignon Blanc from the New World that became a true customer favourite.
Finally the last of the white wines is sulphite free wine from Piedmonte - Gavi 'Spinola' from Castello di Tassarolo, Italy; classy white wine with delicate stone and orchard fruit and some mineralogy. Alex thinks that it tastes like a good but still sparkler - you do not get bubbles, but instead rich biscuit and nutty flavour profile. Soft apple-crumble flavours, lasting quite long on the palate with its crumbly biscuits.
Red lineup starts with a bottle of Bernat Oller by Oller del Mas from Pla de Bages in Spain; this rich red organic wine is intense red in colour with a clean aroma. On the palate the wine is fresh, acid, fruity and spicy. Nicely integrated oak, tannins and acidity. Blend: Merlot 90%, Picapoll Negre 10%. Something richer and definitely off-beaten track!
Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes went into bottle of Ciu Ciu Bacchus Rosso Piceno (Italy). Delightful nose of strawberry, morello cherry and liquorice root. The wine has an uncomplicated juiciness that begs for a second glass. Alex is fond of Italian reds and thinks this entry level dry red wine is awesome for the value.
Final bottle of organic red wine is a gem. Not from the price tag though - it retails for only £11.50 and is one of our ultimate bestsellers. It is organic, sulphite free and unfiltered red wine made of predominantly Monastrell grapes in Alicante. If you haven't yet tried it, meet Tragolargo Monastrell from Alicante - very smooth, richer style of this black fruit variety, it is young but not acidic or astringent at all! Highly recommended to try. It is not that often that everyone's ready to agree on a given wine, but it is the case - very smooth and delicious!
