Tasting Notes

Deep red colour reminiscent of blackcurrants with light toasted glints due to the ageing in barrel. Aromas can be described as toasted and smoky overtones. Hints of sweet biscuit, blackberry jam and touches of vanilla. Palate: a modern, elegant bouquet. Inviting and balanced with a smooth, pleasant finish in mouth. Predominate flavours of ripe acidic fruits, raspberries, plums and cassis with a background of sweet tannins.

Food match: Ideal to be drunk by the glass but its free style makes it the perfect companion to cheeses, meat and even sweet desserts.

Grape varieties and percentages: 50% Red Grenache and 50% Carignan.

Characteristics of the 2010 harvest: The wet spring and a dry, hot summer give the fruit a more intense flavour and the favourable temperatures accelerate the vegetational cycle. Grapes slowly mature from flowering, 50 to 70 days prior to the harvest. The pronounced thermal contrasts give the wine a good acidic level. The grapes undergo a scrupulous selection procedure at the vineyard with only the best grapes selected to ensure the high quality of the wine.

Vinification: Grapes handpicked using 15 kg boxes and then cooled to 5°C. Tanks of 20 and 50 Hl. Computerised temperature control, and fermentation at a constant 25°C. Free run punching down and pumping over depending on the variety. Maceration with the skins during 18 to 22 days depending on variety type and the estate it is picked from. A lengthy press using very low pressure.

Ageing: 10 months in french and american oak barrels. Barrels of 300 and 400 L respectively. Malolactic in barrel and ageing with fine lees.

Bottling: Fined with egg white. Open filtering. Bottled in accordance with the lunar calendar.

Wine profile: Petit Negre 2010 is soft, complex and elegant on the nose. There are strong hints of ripe red fruits with toasted aromas coming through. In mouth the wine is smooth, friendly and balanced with the sweet tannins giving a smooth lasting taste on the palate.

Recommendations: This is a wine to lay down and should be decanted to enjoy at its best . It can be easily laid down for 6 years. Awards: Tender 2009-2010 - Sweden Systembolaget AB and Gold Medall – Category best Montsant red
